Phone Number

The Phone Number field stores phone numbers in a standardized international format. It requires a country code and automatically formats the number so it's consistent across all your records.

What it is

A Phone Number field validates and formats phone numbers using the international dialing standard. When you enter a number, Engine Awesome formats it automatically - so 1 2125551212 becomes +1 (212) 555-1212 . This consistent formatting makes numbers easier to read and ensures compatibility if you connect to third-party tools like SMS services or phone dialers.

How to enter a phone number: Type the country code number, then a space, then the phone number - no plus sign needed. For example, type 1 2125551212 for a US number. Engine Awesome adds the + and formats the rest automatically.

Common country codes

  • +1 - United States and Canada
  • +44 - United Kingdom
  • +91 - India
  • +61 - Australia
  • +49 - Germany
  • +33 - France
  • +52 - Mexico

When to use it

  • Contact records - store cell, office, or home phone numbers for clients
  • Customer database - keep a consistent, dialable phone number on every customer
  • Employee directory - direct lines or mobile numbers for staff
  • Lead tracking - capture phone numbers from inquiries for follow-up calls
  • Vendor records - store supplier or partner contact numbers

Settings

  • Label - the name shown above the field in forms and layouts
  • Required - prevents saving the record unless a phone number is entered
  • Is Searchable - includes this field in record search
  • Conditional - show or hide the field based on another field's value

Example

In a client management app, you add a Phone Number field labeled Mobile to your Clients object type. When your team enters 1 3105559876 , Engine Awesome saves and displays it as +1 (310) 555-9876 . Because all numbers follow the same format, your team can copy any number directly into their phone without reformatting it first.
