Date

The Date field stores date and time values. It comes in four semantic variations - two that your team fills in manually, and two that Engine Awesome fills in automatically when a record is created.

What it is

A Date field gives you a date picker so your team can select dates from a calendar. Depending on the semantic you choose, the field may also include a time component, or it may be filled in automatically by Engine Awesome - no manual entry required.

Semantic options

When you add a Date field, open the field settings and choose one of these semantics:

  • Date - a date and time your team selects manually (e.g., a meeting time or deadline with an exact hour)
  • Date: No Time - a date your team selects manually, without a time component (e.g., a birthday or contract start date)
  • Date: Created - automatically records the exact date and time a record was created; your team cannot edit this value
  • Date: Created No Time - automatically records only the date a record was created, without the time component

When to use it

  • Deadlines and due dates - use Date: No Time so the task shows a clean date without a specific time
  • Appointments and meetings - use Date to capture both the day and time
  • Birthdates or anniversaries - use Date: No Time since the hour doesn't matter
  • Record timestamps - use Date: Created or Date: Created No Time to automatically log when a record was added
  • Contract or subscription dates - start dates, renewal dates, expiration dates

Settings

  • Semantic - choose Date, Date: No Time, Date: Created, or Date: Created No Time
  • Label - the name shown above the field in forms and layouts
  • Required - prevents saving the record unless a date is selected (applies to manual Date fields only)
  • Conditional - show or hide the field based on another field's value

Example

In a project tracker, you add two Date fields to your Tasks object type. The first, labeled Due Date , uses the Date: No Time semantic so team members pick a calendar date without worrying about a specific hour. The second, labeled Created On , uses the Date: Created No Time semantic - Engine Awesome fills this in automatically whenever someone creates a new task, giving you a built-in history of when each task was added.
