URL

The URL field stores web addresses. It accepts links with or without the https:// prefix and displays a Visit button in layouts that opens the link in a new browser tab.

What it is

A URL field is a text input designed for web addresses. You can paste in a full URL like https://www.example.com or just example.com - Engine Awesome recognizes both. When a record is viewed in a layout, a Visit button appears next to the field. Clicking it opens the URL in a new tab, so you can check the link without leaving the record.

When to use it

  • Company websites - store the website URL on a business or client record
  • Social profile URLs - link to a contact's LinkedIn, Twitter, or other profiles
  • Resource links - attach a relevant external page, guide, or document to a record
  • Product pages - link product records to their listings on your website or a marketplace
  • Reference URLs - any link your team might need quick access to from a record

Settings

  • Label - the name shown above the field in forms and layouts
  • Required - prevents saving the record unless a URL is entered
  • Is Searchable - includes this field in record search
  • Conditional - show or hide the field based on another field's value

Example

In a vendor management app, you add a URL field labeled Website to your Vendors object type. Your team enters each vendor's website when creating a record. When someone needs to check pricing or contact details on a vendor's site, they click the Visit button directly on the record - the website opens in a new tab and they're right where they need to be.
