Connect Engine Awesome to Zapier

By the end of this guide, your Engine Awesome account will be connected to Zapier and you will have a working Zap, an automated workflow that runs without you doing anything.

The Engine Awesome Zapier app is currently invite-only. Before you can find it in Zapier, you need to be added to the integration. Contact our team to request access and we'll send you an invite link.

What you'll need before you start

  • An Engine Awesome account with Owner access (required to create API keys).
  • A Zapier account. The free plan supports basic automations.
  • Access to the Engine Awesome Zapier app (invite required, see above).

Step 1: Create an API key in Engine Awesome

An API key (a password that lets Zapier access your Engine Awesome data on your behalf) is required before you can connect.

  1. In Engine Awesome, click Settings.
  2. Click API Access.
  3. Click Create Token.
  4. Give it a name. For example: Zapier.
  5. Under permissions, check the boxes for what this Zap will need:
    • Check object:read if Zapier needs to read records from Engine Awesome.
    • Check object:create if Zapier will create records in Engine Awesome.
    • Check webhook:create if Engine Awesome will trigger Zapier when something happens in Engine Awesome.
  6. Click Save.
  7. Copy the token that appears. You will not be able to see it again.

Step 2: Connect your Engine Awesome account in Zapier

  1. Log in to Zapier.
  2. Click Create Zap.
  3. Search for Engine Awesome in the app list.
  4. Click Engine Awesome and choose a trigger or action.
  5. When prompted, click Sign in to Engine Awesome.
  6. Paste your API key from Step 1.
  7. Enter your Team URL. This is the part of your Engine Awesome URL before .engineawesome.app. For example, if your app is at vandelay.engineawesome.app, your Team URL is vandelay.
  8. Click Yes, Continue.

Zapier confirms the connection.

Step 3: Set up a trigger or action

If Engine Awesome is the trigger (something happens in Engine Awesome, then Zapier does something):

  1. Choose New Record as the trigger event.
  2. Select the Object Type to watch. For example: Contacts.
  3. Test the trigger to confirm Zapier can see your records.

If Engine Awesome is the action (something happens elsewhere, then Zapier creates a record in Engine Awesome):

  1. Choose Create Record as the action event.
  2. Select the Object Type to create records in.
  3. Map the fields from your trigger app to Engine Awesome fields.

Step 4: Turn on the Zap

  1. Test the full Zap to confirm data flows correctly.
  2. Click Publish.

The Zap runs automatically from this point forward.
